Baking Bread with Kids

A hands-on bread baking class designed for kids ages 8-12.

About this experience

Kids love baking bread: from measuring simple ingredients, to mixing the dough by hand, to placing the dough in a pan and watching it rise in the oven as it bakes. This class is designed for kids between the ages of 8 and 12 (younger or older will be considered on a case-by-case basis), and will focus in a fun way on the history of bread, measuring dry ingredients, the role of yeast in bread baking, mixing and shaping dough, the reasons why we let dough rise, and the final baking (with supervision) of a beautiful loaf that students will take home.

Parents are welcome for coffee prior to the start of class, but this is a kids-only classroom experience. Class includes a pizza lunch that students will create from scratch. In addition to their individual loaves of bread, students will take home a bread baking workbook as well as a kit containing pre-measured flour and yeast for baking bread at home.

This class will be held at 314 Depew Street in Peekskill (near the corner of Hudson Avenue and Depew Street).

Additional information

This is a hands-on class led by Michael Sellers, owner of Journeyman Bakery and voted Best New Bread Baker by Westchester Magazine in 2017. Students will receive further information and confirmation after registration. Class limited to six students.
